Get your permit

As stated on the website, permits for wedding sites are issued a year in advance regarding Shoreline Parks and Beaches and Balboa Park. They are not issued for legal holidays or dates that fall over holiday weekends.

Alcohol and smoking on the beach are prohibited in San Diego. Keep in mind that having a wedding permit doesn’t give you exclusivity. Most likely, there will be people passing by. But in most cases, they will be considerate and won’t get in the way.

Dress accordingly

There are many stylish yet not too formal options suitable for a beach wedding. Whether you’re looking for a chic, casual or bohemian wedding dress, forget the big dress, a long train and veil. You expect a breezy atmosphere, but it can get windy. Choose a sand-friendly and lighter fabric. The less fussy the veil, the better. You can style your hair with some fresh flowers or a fascinator.
